The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance’s season kickoff program on September 20 will feature members of the Dayton Philharmonic, Dayton Opera, and Dayton Ballet in a “Russian Panorama” program. Music highlights of the opening concert at Dayton’s Schuster Center include Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, and the Coronation Scene from Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov. From September 20 to 28, an exhibit of Russian photographs, matryoshka nesting dolls, and timeline of Russian cultural history will be on display in the Schuster Center lobby and Wintergarden. Related events include a talk by Dayton Philharmonic Artistic Director Neal Gittleman and guest violinist Chad Hoopes about Tchaikovsky’s music; and another by Dr. Joseph Schenk of the University of Dayton, about Russian culture. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 by the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
