In Wednesday’s (9/10) Mankato Free Press (Mankato, Minnesota), Robb Murray profiles Mankato Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet Brad Shermock, who “is heading up MSO’s Pops at the Kato, a pair of concerts—one this week and one in spring—that will present a decidedly different face of our Mankato’s orchestra. The pops concert will put some swing into the MSO mix. You’re going to want to move, and with the event taking place at the Kato Ballroom, you’ll have plenty of room to do that…. Having played with Prince and just about everyone else in the Twin Cities music scene, Shermock has a vast network of musicians he can ask to partner up on a venture such as this. He didn’t have to do a lot of asking around, though. Near the top of his list—maybe at the very top—was Bruce Henry, and Adi Yeshaya and his Big Band…. ‘I called every top-notch person I could call to sit in those chairs,’ Shermock says, ‘so there are no slouches in this band.’ … The spring version of Pops at the Kato will feature the Hornheads, the five-piece jazz ensemble that was a part of Prince’s New Power Generation from 1991-1994.”
