“If the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts had a personality, it would be vibrant one day, meditative the next, then full of hilarity, then challenging and provocative. All of those traits will be on view in March, when the venue celebrates the opening of its new Concert Hall with the month-long ‘Rock the Ordway,’ ” writes Chris Hewitt in Sunday’s (9/7) St. Paul Pioneer Press (Minnesota). The new hall is home to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. “The month includes the world premiere of Minnesota Opera’s eagerly anticipated ‘The Manchurian Candidate,’ a concert by stage legend Bernadette Peters, soprano Ying Fang’s St. Paul Chamber Orchestra debut in Gustav Mahler’s Fourth Symphony and the Schubert Club’s ‘Love Songs,’ featuring vocal soloists from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center…. Free events include a community open house, a family day and concerts by the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies and winners of the Schubert Club’s Student Scholarship Competition.” Also planned during Ordway’s opening month are “Mozart for the Young at Heart” with the Minnesota Youth Symphonies and Minnesota Opera’s Project Opera, “The Singing Revolution: Songs of the Baltic Awakening” with the vocal ensemble Cantus, and “When Inspiration Knocks” with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies.
