In Nevada, the Lake Tahoe SummerFest reports that it concluded its third season in 2014 with a 7 percent increase in ticket sales and an increase of more than 60 percent in season subscriptions. At the festival, during the first three weekends in August, the 44-member festival orchestra performs in a 500-seat acoustical tent on the campus of Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada. The festival orchestra’s musicians come from ensembles including the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the New York and Los Angeles philharmonics, and the San Francisco, Seattle, and Dallas symphonies. Madylon Meiling, founder and president of the festival, said in a press release that in future seasons she aims to “increase audience participation, the number of musicians, and the concert season,” with a long-term goal of establishing a cultural center for the arts in the Lake Tahoe area.
