“Governor Rick Scott addressed nearly 1,000 state tourism leaders in Monday to kick off a three-day conference designed to sell Florida as a tourist destination, but it was Wellington [Florida] resident Rob ‘Vanilla Ice’ Van Winkle that took the limelight,” writes Jennifer Sorentrue in Monday’s (9/22) Palm Beach Post (subscription required). “The musician-turned-reality TV star performed his hit song ‘Ice Ice Baby’ with the Palm Beach Symphony while ballerinas from Ballet Palm Beach danced around the stage at the Boca Raton Resort and Club. … ‘We wanted to come up with something really different,’ said Marilyn Bauer, the county’s director of marketing and government affairs. ‘It is something we think people won’t forget.’ … ‘Welcome, everybody, to beautiful Palm Beach,’ Van Winkle told the crowd. ‘You get to see a symphony, a ballet, and a rapper all in one.’ ” A video of the performance with Palm Beach Symphony is posted on the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County’s YouTube channel.
