Among the organizations and musicians announcing recordings news is the New York City-based VIA Records, whose inaugural release is The Violin, a multimedia collaboration by composer Anna Clyne, visual artist Josh Dorman, and violinists Cornelius Dufallo and Amy Kauffman. The Violin and all future releases on the label will include a CD, DVD, and art poster. SoundCloud, the free music streaming service, has announced plans to add display and other advertising, as well as introduce a paid subscription option for listeners; talks are underway for licensing deals with Universal Music, Sony Music, and Warner Music. Deutsche Grammophon has launched the DG Discovery streaming app, with an initial group of 450 recordings from the DG catalog, for a monthly or annual subscription fee.
San Francisco-based label Pinna Records has released Patterns of Plants, a work by Mamoru Fujieda featuring melodic patterns based on readings of electrical activity in living plants, featuring pianist Sarah Cahill. Naxos has released the first recording of Falling Man, Kenneth Fuchs’s orchestral work based on Don DeLillo’s post-9/11 novel, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra led by JoAnn Falletta. On September 30, the Sono Luminus label will release Complete String Quartets with Didjeridu by the late Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe; the performers are the San Francisco-based Del Sol String Quartet and didjeridu player Stephen Kent. Pianist Leon Fleisher has released All The Things You Are, a solo disc on the Bridge label of works by Jerome Kern as well as J.S. Bach, Leon Kirchner, George Gershwin, George Perle, Federico Mompou, and Dina Koston.
