The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has inaugurated a new partnership this season in which artists from Gallery Aferro, a contemporary-art gallery based in Newark, will attend orchestra performances in Newark and share content about their experiences at the gallery’s and orchestra’s websites. The project, called Artist Box, was launched with ten artists attending the NJSO’s opening-night concert on October 10 at Newark’s New Jersey Performing Arts Center, featuring Orff’s Carmina Burana. Artists will also attend concerts on January 9, February 27, March 13, and April 24. The project will culminate with a May exhibit at Gallery Aferro, featuring artworks inspired by the concerts.
