The Des Moines Symphony has announced a nine-month multidisciplinary collaboration called The Four Seasons Project with the Des Moines Symphony Academy, the Pointe Academy of Ballet & Contemporary Dance, the Science Center of Iowa, and the Des Moines Art Center. For the project, instructors, faculty, and lecturers from all four organizations will work with more than 90 students over the 2014-15 school year to integrate different disciplines into exploring Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. At the project launch on October 24, guest violinist Anne Akiko Meyers—who was in Des Moines to perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with the Des Moines Symphony—coached students who will play in The Four Seasons at the project’s culminating performance in May. In December, all student participants will attend a kick-off event at the Science Center of Iowa; in March the four organizations will present a symposium at the Des Moines Art Center, and in April, the Des Moines Art Center will host Art Sampler, a free community event related to the project. The Des Moines Symphony Academy comprises 35 Des Moines Symphony Youth Orchestras string players and four student violin soloists.
