The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and New Jersey Performing Arts Center have launched a new music-education partnership, Music Advancement for Newark-Area Youth (MANY). The program will provide intensive musical instruction and leadership development to beginner and intermediate students of string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, with the goal of preparing them for to acceptance into performance-based programs including NYSO Youth Orchestras, Arts High School Orchestra and concert Band, Newark School for the Arts, NJPAC Brick City Jazz Orchestra, and Wells Fargo Jazz for Teens. Auditions for the program will take place on November 20 and 22. Marshell Jones Kumahor, the NJSO’s vice president of education and community engagement, said of the initiative, “We see this partnership primarily as a catalyst for further collaborations with are schools and arts organizations committed to nurturing our young people we are excited about the possibilities that MANY can spark.” Click here for more information about the initiative.
