In Sunday’s (11/9) St. George News (Utah), an unsigned article previews a November 13 “American Composers Without Borders” concert by the Cedar City-based Orchestra of Southern Utah, the second offering in a season themed “Pieces of Peace.” Assistant Conductor Adam Lambert will conduct Leroy Anderson’s Bugler’s Holiday and The Typewriter, with Assistant Conductor Carylee Zwang featured in the latter as the typewriter soloist. “The orchestra introduces new composers Chad Cannon and Mark Dal Porto” with Cannon’s Chaconne for “After a Storm” and Dal Porto’s Song of Eternity under the direction of Music Director Xun Sun. “The OSU performs the sounds of Africa with the help of Enterprise High School’s Concert Choir”; the piece is written by local composer Marshall McDonald and performed by cellist Steven Sharp Nelson. Concluding the evening will be Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue featuring fourteen-year-old pianist Sarah Sun, who “received top honors in her age category in the Salt Lake Piano Competition this summer.”
