The Shreveport (La.) Symphony Orchestra has announced a four-year extension of MICHAEL BUTTERMAN’s contract as music director. He has led the orchestra since 2005, and the new agreement extends his tenure through the 2017-18 season. As the Shreveport Symphony’s music director Butterman played a significant role in resolving the orchestra’s labor dispute during the 2009-09 season; in initiating the Noel Foundation Chamber Music Series, now in its third season; and in building the orchestra’s education programs. Butterman is also music director of the Boulder (Colo.) Philharmonic Orchestra, where his contract was recently extended for five years; music director of the newly formed Pennsylvania Philharmonic; resident conductor of the Jacksonville (Fla.) Symphony Orchestra; and principal conductor for education and community engagement at the Rochester (N.Y.) Philharmonic Orchestra.
