The Rhode Island Philharmonic has launched a Kids Club for children in grades 3-6 that offers heavily discounted tickets to Friday rush-hour concerts; conversations with conductors, musicians, and special guests; and backstage tour, games, and activities. The first of three concerts open to Kids Club members took place on November 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence, featuring selections from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 and Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, led by conductor Larry Rachleff and featuring soloist Jennifer Koh. Two additional concerts open to club members in April and May will feature Orff’s Carmina Burana, Saint-Saëns’s Cello Concerto No. 1, the “Queen Mab Scherzo” from Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette, and Ravel’s Bolero. Club members also have access to online games and learning resources developed by Carnegie Hall and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Kids Club, such as “Time Machine,” “Beethoven’s Baseball,” “A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra,” and an “Interactive Guide to African-American Music.”
