MATTHEW VAUGHN has been named co-principal trombone of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He joined the orchestra as associate principal trombone in 1999 and was acting principal trombone from 2012 to 2014. Before coming to Philadelphia he held the principal trombone post at the San Antonio Symphony. In addition to performing as a soloist, Vaughn has served in the United States Air Force Concert Band in Washington, D.C.; performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, and the Super-World Orchestra in Tokyo; and led master classes in Philadelphia and internationally. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a performer’s certificate from Indiana University.
