Canadian comedian Colin Mochrie will host the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s first collaboration with Second City Toronto, “The Second City Guide to the Orchestra” on November 29 and 30 at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall. TSO Music Director Peter Oundjian will conduct a two-act program that combines classical music and sketch comedy, satire, song, improv, and video. The “loving and hilarious look at the idiosyncrasies of a world-class symphony orchestra” will include sketches told from the perspective of a couple on a blind date at the TSO, Gustav Mahler’s secret second career, the sexual prowess of a woodwind virtuoso, and a send-up of the audience. Musical excerpts will include Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart, and Glinka, as well as original compositions by Second City Musical Director Matthew Reid.
