EUGENE IZOTOV has been named principal oboe of the San Francisco Symphony, effective with the 2015-16 season. He succeeds the late WILLIAM BENNETT. Since 2006 Izotov has been principal oboe of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that he served as principal oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and from 1996 to 2003 he was the San Francisco Symphony’s associate principal oboe. Izotov has appeared more than 40 times as soloist with the Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston symphonies as well as with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra. He has presented master classes at Aspen Music Festival and School, Tanglewood Music Center, Boston University, New World Symphony, Manhattan School of Music, The Juilliard School, the University of Michigan, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. Izotov studied at the Gnesin Academy of Music in his native Moscow and at Boston University’s School of Fine Arts.
