Musicians from Tennessee’s Chattanooga Symphony and Opera have begun an educational residency at the Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, an arts-focused magnet school for students in grades six through twelve. Through the residency, a string quintet and wind quintet from the orchestra have been visiting CCA monthly to coach, rehearse, and perform with the school’s advanced string and wind students. The program “seeks to increase the knowledge and proficiency of instrument and performance techniques, increase awareness of music as a professional career, and provide an opportunity for students to see and interact with musicians in their working environment,” according to a press release. The program is one of several education programs run by the orchestra, which also includes Ensembles in the Schools, Young People’s Concerts, Strings in the Schools, and the CSO Youth Orchestras.
