“The Lincoln Center Festival will mark its 20th anniversary this summer with return engagements by the Druid Theater Company of Ireland, the Cleveland Orchestra, the theater company Cheek by Jowl and the director Yukio Ninagawa,” writes Michael Cooper in Thursday’s (1/22) New York Times. The festival “will begin July 6 in Avery Fisher Hall with an orchestra playing Danny Elfman’s ‘Music from the Films of Tim Burton,’ which will be combined with film clips, sketches, drawings and storyboards edited by Mr. Burton. The National Ballet of China will perform ‘The Peony Pavilion’ and ‘The Red Detachment of Women.’ … Franz Welser-Möst will conduct the Cleveland Orchestra in concert performances of Richard Strauss’s opera ‘Daphne,’ ” as well as concerts featuring works of Messiaen, Dvorák, Beethoven, and Strauss. Other music programming includes the Ruhrtriennale’s production of Harry Partch’s music-theater spectacle Delusion of the Fury featuring Ensemble Musikfabrik, directed by Heiner Goebbels. Yarn/Wire, a chamber quartet based in New York City, will perform new works and world premieres it has commissioned from young French composers. Other offerings include cutting-edge theater pieces from England, Japan, Ireland, and Russia.
