The Charleston-based West Virginia Symphony Orchestra has appointed PAMELA MURCHISON development director. She assumed the role on January 15, and will step down as executive director of the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble on January 31. Murchison is in her eighth season as third flute/piccolo with the WVSO, a post she will continue to hold while serving as development director. As a musician she has held leadership positions with the Akron and Ohio Valley symphonies and performed in the chamber ensemble Matt Murchison Mutiny. Murchison holds a bachelor’s degree in flute performance from Pittsburgh’s Duquesne University and a master’s degree from Youngstown (Ohio) State University. She is completing a doctoral degree at West Virginia University.
