On Tuesday (1/27) at Fox 11 Online (Green Bay, Wisconsin), Bill Miston writes, “St. Norbert College announced today it will serve as the new parent organization” for the Green Bay Symphony’s Youth Orchestra program, “as the Green Bay symphony Orchestra is set to shut down this spring…. Started in 1967 by the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra to provide students a professional playing experience, the program is funded through tuition, sponsors, and donations. Last year, the parent organization announced it would play its last season because of declining revenue and increased concert costs…. ‘We had a lot of decisions to make, if we wanted to get our own 501(c)3 and become an independent organization,’ said [GBSYO manager Audrey] Nowak, ‘or if we wanted to partner with another organization.’ ‘It’s good for the college, but certainly good for the community,’ said St. Norbert College President Tom Kunkel.” The GBSYO will “continue to perform concerts … at the Weidner Center on the University of Wisconsin Green Bay campus.” The youth program and symphony’s final concert together will take place on April 11, featuring program graduates who are professional musicians and have been invited back for the occasion, as well as youth symphony musicians performing onstage with the GBSO.
