Florida’s Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra has launched UpTempo, a young-professionals group that includes admission to five concerts and get-togethers for members. UpTempo’s launch event took place on February 4 with a cocktail hour at Candy Apple Cafe and Sweet Pete’s, located near Hemming Park in downtown Jacksonville, where Music Director Courtney Lewis and musicians from the orchestra chatted with approximately 80 members of the new group. Members pay $99 for annual UpTempo membership; future events will be announced later in February and include three hour-long performances as well as after-parties and cocktail hours. “We have a great orchestra, we have a world-class symphony orchestra right around the corner, and I don’t think everybody in Jacksonville, particularly people our age, realize that it’s there,” Lewis said.
