An unsigned article in Wednesday’s (2/11) Idaho Mountain Express (Sun Valley, Idaho) announces details of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony’s 2015 lineup of free performances from July 26 to August 19. Under Music Director Alasdair Neale, the season will feature a commissioned world premiere by Kenji Bunch performed with the ensemble Time for Three, part of a new “three-year formal collaboration with Time for Three called Project Tf3 [that includes a commissioned] work from the group each of the next two years, as well.” The festival’s In Focus Series “will continue last year’s theme of ‘Made in America.’ … The In Focus Series will explore music by American composers, with programs highlighting the influences of America’s cultural melting pot and the jazz era’s influence on 20th century classical composers such as Gershwin, Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein. Baritone [Thomas] Hampson will … appear in the Aug. 6 symphony concert, in which he will sing selections from Mahler’s ‘Des Knaben Wunderhorn’ and ‘Songs of a Wayfarer.’ … Pianist [Garrick] Ohlsson will be the soloist in Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 … [and] violinist [Gil] Shaham … closes the 2015 season with Tchaikovsky’s Concerto in D Major.”
