Friday’s (2/13) Standard-Times (San Angelo, Texas) includes an unsigned article about the San Angelo Symphony’s education programs. “A long-standing educational offering, the Symphony’s ‘Traveling Trunks’ are large chests that journey into elementary classrooms filled with tactile music items [including] instruments, books, games, puzzles, writing topics and curriculum lessons for teachers. Schools keep the trunks for six weeks…. ‘Know the Score’ … invites [middle school, high school, and college] students into the concert hall for selected final rehearsals to observe a professional ensemble rehearse and interact with the maestro and select musicians.… Entering its 30th year, the Symphony’s beloved Youth Concert continues to welcome third- through fifth-graders.… Weaving together classical and popular music with a child-friendly format, the concert also ties in with core academic subjects.… The ‘Music in Literature’ program, for kindergartners through fifth-graders … pairs elementary schools and professional musicians…. The program [weaves] music into the curriculum….
