In Friday’s (2/13) Dallas Morning News, Scott Cantrell reports on the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s 2015-16 season plans. “In the 10-concert symphonic season, Ukrainian pianist Vadim Kholodenko, winner of the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, continues his artistic partnership with the orchestra, performing the Prokofiev piano concertos 1, 3 and 4. Continuing the orchestra’s commitment to contemporary music, but replacing the single composer-in-residence arrangement of past seasons, Cindy McTee, Mason Bates, and Adam Schoenberg will be visiting composers. Music director Miguel Harth-Bedoya will conduct seven of the 10 programs, each performed three times at Bass Performance Hall. Guest conductors will be Leonard Slatkin, Ignat Solzhenitsyn and Marcelo Lehninger…. William Clay, principal bassist in the FWSO, will perform a Double Bass Concerto by Serge Koussevitzky…. The seven-concert pops series includes programs of sci-fi and classic movie music, tango, tributes to Paul McCartney and Louis Armstrong, and music from Bugs Bunny cartoons.” Other highlights include a gala featuring Joshua Bell; a New Year’s Eve jazz program and the annual Messiah; appearances by Doc Severinsen and Jason Alexander; and the FWSO’s first participation (in summer 2016) in the Van Cliburn Foundation International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs.
