The New Jersey Performing Arts Center has announced plans for its 2015-16 season, including performances by five visiting orchestras, beginning in October with Valery Gergiev leading the London Symphony Orchestra in a program of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite as well as two Bartók works: the Miraculous Mandarin Suite and Piano Concerto No. 3, with soloist Yefim Bronfman. Also scheduled to appear at NJPAC during the season as the Royal Philharmonic, with Pinchas Zukerman conducting and as violin soloist; the Orchestre National de France, led by Daniele Gatti; and London’s Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, led by violinist/music director Joshua Bell. In April, Michael Tilson Thomas will conduct the San Francisco Symphony in Schumann’s Symphony No. 2, Copland’s Orchestral Variations and Inscape, and Copland’s Piano Concerto, with pianist Inon Barnatan as soloist. NJPAC, located in downtown Newark, also serves as home to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, which performs there and at other locations around the state.
