The Hilton Head International Piano Competition will hold its 20th annual competition from March 9 to 14 in Hilton Head, South Carolina. This year the competition is open to performers aged 13 to 17; in odd-numbered years there is an adult competition for pianists ages 18–30. The 20 competitors include pianists from Canada, China, Japan, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, and Tajikistan, as well as ten performers from the U.S. and Puerto Rico: Rolando Alejandro, Nadia Azzi, Eden Chen, Matthew Eng, Andrew Li, Elisabeth Tsai, John Wang, Natasha Wu, Eliot Wuu, and William Yang. The competition finals, featuring performances with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, will be held at Hilton Head’s First Presbyterian Church. The winner will receive a $7,000 prize plus a summer music scholarship valued at up to $5,000 and a second performance with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. The competition also awards one second prize ($5,000) and third prize ($3,000), two finalist prizes ($1,000), and a Sascha Gorodnitzki Memorial Prize ($1,000).
