In Saturday’s (2/28) LaGrange News (Georgia), Melanie Ruberti writes, “When guest conductor Dr. Richard Prior takes the helm of the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra in April, it will not be his first performance with the group—nor will it be his last. LSO Board President Gary Meyer announced Friday that Prior is the new conductor and musical director of the orchestra. He is the successor of Dr. Patricio Cobos, who resigned in December to take a full-time teaching position at the University of Tacca in his home country of Chile.… ‘[Prior] was a guest conductor for the LSO in October 2014,’ Meyer explained. ‘We had no idea we’d be searching for a conductor at that point. At that concert we got such wonderful feedback from orchestra members.’ ” A native of Kent, England, Prior received “multiple degrees and doctorates at university across England before traveling to the United States. His most recent position has been as director of orchestral studies at Emory University in Atlanta. He … conducts both the Emory University Symphony Orchestra and Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra.” Prior is also a composer whose music “has been performed, recorded and broadcast widely in Europe and North America.”
