New Zealand’s Auckland Philharmonia has announced the appointment of Italian-Danish conductor GIORDANO BELLINCAMPI as music director. His three-year contract commences with the 2016 season; in October of this year he will lead the orchestra in two concerts as guest conductor. Bellincampi is general music director of Germany’s Duisberg Philharmonic and chief conductor of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in Norway. He has served as principal conductor of Milan’s I Pomeriggi Musicali (2012-14); as general music director of the Danish National Opera (2005-13); as music director of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra (2000-06); and as chief conductor of the avant-garde ensemble Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen (1997-2000). Born in 1965 in Italy, Bellincampi moved to Copenhagen at a young age, beginning a career as a trombonist with the Royal Danish Orchestra. He made his professional conducting debut in 1994.
