In Friday’s (3/6) News-Press (Santa Barbara, Calif.; subscription required), Josef Woodard interviews Music Academy of the West Vice President of Marketing Ana Papakhian about MAW’s newly announced Community Access Initiatives program. “We’ve had Community Access tickets available in the past,” says Papakhian, “and we wanted to expand on that to welcome even more of our community, especially as we expand to larger venues.” Asked about broadening access to MAW offerings through technology, Papakhian says, “We’ll be live streaming events all summer, and then by posting these to be viewed on demand, we give even more musicians the access to learn from our distinguished faculty.” The New York Philharmonic will perform at the Santa Barbara Bowl on August 3, Papakhian says. “Through philanthropic support … we will be able to offer $10 subsidized tickets for 4,000 seats at the Bowl and 7- to 17-year-olds will be welcome to attend free of charge, accompanied by adults with tickets.” MAW is “in discussion” with the Santa Barbara Symphony and the Ojai Festival about “how we can help each other reach new people.” A June 24 Music Academy Open House will provide a “full day of music and the opportunity to learn more about music.”
