“Pianist Michael Brown, violinists Paul Huang, Kristin Lee and Simone Porter, and violist Matthew Lipman have each been awarded an Avery Fisher Career Grant, which consists of $25,000 for career needs,” writes Brian Wise at classical radio station WQXR’s website on Wednesday (3/18). “Each of the five recipients—who will receive their awards in an event on Wednesday at 6 pm in [New York City’s Jerome L.] Greene Space—are early-career musicians under the age of 30 (the event will be video webcast on this page). The Avery Fisher Career Grants have been given annually by the Avery Fisher Artist Program since 1976. A committee of arts administrators, musicians and conservatory deans selects the grant recipients.… Joseph Polisi, the president of the Juilliard School and the chairman of the Avery Fisher Artist Program, will introduce Wednesday’s Greene Space event, along with Charles Avery Fisher and Nancy Fisher. Elliott Forrest and Robert Sherman will host the event; an hour-long radio broadcast is planned on Monday, April 6 on WQXR.” The Career Grant recipients, all citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., range in age from 18 are 28.
