The San Francisco Conservatory of Music has appointed TOM HOOTEN, principal trumpet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to its collegiate faculty, effective in fall 2015. Prior to joining the LA Phil, Hooten was principal trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2012. He began his performing career in the United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C., and subsequently served as second trumpet in the Richmond (Va.) Symphony Orchestra and assistant principal trumpet in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Hooten has taught at Aspen Music Festival and School and Georgia’s Kennesaw State University, and has given masterclasses at the Juilliard School, Northwestern University, and Indiana University. A native of Tampa, he holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida and a master’s from Rice University in Houston.
