Portland-based Oregon Bach Festival has extended its contract with Artistic Director MATTHEW HALLS through the 2020 season. He was named to the post July 15, 2013, shortly after the conclusion of the festival’s 2013 season. In the U.K. Halls has served as artistic director of the period-instrument Retrospect Ensemble, which he founded in 2009, and of The King’s Consort. His recent and upcoming guest-conducting engagements include the Cleveland, Philadelphia, and National Arts Centre orchestras; the Colorado, Houston, Indianapolis, National, Seattle, and Toronto symphonies; the Calgary (Alberta) Philharmonic Orchestra; Germany’s Frankfurt Radio Symphony; the RTE National Symphony in Dublin; and Australia’s Melbourne and West Australian symphonies. Halls was educated at Oxford University, where he subsequently taught for several years.
