The city of Nashville is one of more than 500 cities worldwide marking June 21, the summer solstice, with free public music performances. As part of those events, Make Music Nashville will present John Luther Adams’s concert-length percussion work Inuksuit at Nashville’s Cumberland Park Stage. Last year’s Make Music Nashville celebration featured fourteen regional venues and performances by more than 60 artists. Mass Appeal events included a drum circle hosted by Fork’s Drum Closet and a children’s harmonica jam at the Nashville Zoo. The festival is accepting applications from performers and venues who wish to participate at matchnashville.makemusicday.org/. Other North American cities planning Make Music events on June 21 include Boston, Chicago, Fort Wayne (Ind.), Los Angeles, Fullerton (Cal.), Madison (Wis.), Montclair (NJ), New York, Normal (Ill.), Philadelphia, Plymouth (NH), Portland (Maine), Portland (Oregon), Santa Fe, Seattle, Syracuse, and Vancouver (BC, Canada).
