The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of KEITARO HARADA as associate conductor, effective in September 2015. Currently associate conductor of the Richmond (Va.) Symphony and Arizona Opera, he has served as music director of the Phoenix Youth Symphony and as principal guest conductor of the Sierra Vista (Ariz.) Symphony. A native of Tokyo, and a graduate of Michigan’s Interlochen Arts Academy and Mercer University in Macon, Ga., Harada is a two-time recipient of the Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Award. In 2013 he was featured in the League of American Orchestras’ Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview. His conducting teachers have included Christoph von Dohnányi, Robert Spano, Michael Tilson Thomas, Herbert Blomstedt, Adrian Gnam, and Stefan Asbury.
