The Minnesota Orchestra has announced the appointment of RODERICK COX as assistant conductor, effective in June 2015. He is currently completing a conducting fellowship with the Chicago Sinfonietta through its Project Inclusion program, and recently served a two-year term at the Birmingham-based Alabama Symphony Orchestra, as assistant conductor of the ASO and music director of the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra. A native of Macon, Georgia, Cox earned a master’s degree in conducting at Northwestern University as a student of Mallory Thompson and Victor Yampolsky, and holds a bachelor’s degree from the Schwob School of Music at Ohio’s Columbus State University. He studied with Robert Spano at Aspen Music Festival and School’s American Academy of Conducting. Cox was the 2012 David Effron Conducting Fellow at Chautauqua Music Festival.
