“After shutting down for a season, the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera is back, launching a flash-mob-style marketing plan over seven weeks as it unveils its 2015-2016 season,” writes Mark Anderson in Thursday’s (4/16) Sacramento Business Journal. “The orchestra also announced it is designating music director Michael Morgan ‘emeritus’ and expects to replace him within 18 months. In the meantime, Morgan will conduct some performances next season. The one conventional event planned in coming weeks is a concert with pop-opera tenor Andrea Bocelli on June 10 at Sleep Train Arena. But other performances will be decidedly different…. Musicians will stage ‘pop-up’ performances in various locations. The performances, all of which will be free, could involve small ensembles or even just a single musician. The impromptu performances, which begin the week of May 5, will be revealed shortly before each event on the orchestra’s Facebook page. Later this month, the orchestra will announce details of 10 performances planned next season, many with guest conductors. No opera performances are planned for the first season back from hiatus…. The Sacramento Philharmonic and the Sacramento Opera are merged into the Sacramento Region Performing Arts Alliance…. This February, the company named a new interim director, Alice Sauro.”
