California’s Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music has announced details of its 2015 season under Music Director Marin Alsop, to be held in Santa Cruz from August 7 to 16. The festival’s twelve composers in residence include Hannah Lash, whose Eating Flowers will be premiered on a program including works by Missy Mazzoli, Sean Shepherd, Nico Muhly, and Philip Glass. Other planned performances at Cabrillo include David T. Little’s Haunted Topography; James MacMillan’s Percussion Concerto No. 2; Sebastian Currier’s Quanta; Charles Halka’s Impact; Ana Lara’s Angeles de llama y hielo (Angels of Flame and Ice); Christopher Rouse’s Supplica; Huang Ruo’s The Color Yellow; Jonathan Newman’s Blow it up start again; Mason Bates’s Anthology of Fantastic Zoology; and Joby Talbot’s Chroma. Guest artists will include percussionist Colin Currie, violinist Tim Fain, cellist Matt Haimovitz, trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, the Kronos Quartet, narrator Nathaniel Stookey, and sheng player Wu Wei. The festival also includes open rehearsals, pre-rehearsal talks, and the Conductors/Composers Workshop, a professional training program.
