On April 24, Michigan’s Grand Rapids Symphony will present “LiveArts,” a one-time event described as an “epic storytelling adventure” incorporating contemporary and classical music. The event will bring together more than 1,500 area musicians, dancers, and community members to perform at the Van Andel Arena with the orchestra, including the Grand Rapids Ballet, Opera Grand Rapids, Broadway Grand Rapids, Symphony Chorus, Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and Classical Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus, and students from 22 schools. Program highlights include Saint-Saëns’s “The Swan” from Carnival of the Animals; selections from Orff’s Carmina Burana; Sean Ivory’s “I Will Rise”; and the finale from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Pre-event photos and videos can be viewed here and here. The Grand Rapids Symphony is currently in its 85th season. Peter Kjome is president and CEO, and David Lockington is music director.
