California’s Santa Barbara Symphony has announced details of its 2015-16 season, Artistic Director Nir Kabaretti’s tenth leading the orchestra. The season will open in October with a collaboration with the Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts, State Street Ballet, and Santa Barbara Choral Society, featuring Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, and Beethoven’s “Leonore” Overture No. 3. A second collaboration in January will feature the Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara performing with the orchestra in Mendelssohn’s Suite from A Midsummer Night’s Dream; the program also includes Walton’s film score for As You Like It and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite. The U.S. premiere of Machpelah by Italian composer Christian Carrara will be performed in January on a program with Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, Handel’s Water Music Suite, and Gabrieli’s Symphoniae sacrae. The season also will feature Elmer Bernstein’s Guitar Concerto, as well as music by Brahms, Britten, Bruckner, Debussy, Hummel, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, and Weber.
