Artistic: Central Illinois Youth Symphony

DAVID COMMANDAY has been named conductor of the Peoria-based Central Illinois Youth Symphony. He is also artistic director of Peoria’s Heartland Festival Orchestra, conductor of the Young People’s Symphony at Webster University in Missouri, and a faculty member and artist-in-residence at Eureka (Ill.) College. Previously affiliated with the CIYS as conductor and music advisor from 2003 to 2009, Commanday has served as music director of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra; director of the Longy School of Music Orchestra in Cambridge, Mass.; conductor of the Greater Newark (N.J.) Youth Orchestra; and music director of the New Jersey Youth Symphony. As a consultant to the Singapore Ministry of Education, he recently coached the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and led them at the Singapore Esplanade Concert Series.
