The Dallas Chamber Symphony has announced the results of its second annual “Sight of Sound” Film Competition, which called on all types of filmmakers from around the world to create short silent films to accompany selections of classical music. Nearly 50 films were submitted to the competition, and for the Dallas Chamber Symphony’s season finale on April 28 the finalists’ films were screened as the orchestra performed the scores that had inspired them. The Best Picture Award went to Aleksandra Rastovic for her film The Fatales. Silvia Lara’s film Impetus won the Audience Choice Award. Both women are students at UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television, and both chose as the inspiration for their film the Allegro Molto movement from Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony, Op. 110A. “Sight of Sound,” billed by the DCS as the only film competition of its kind, is presented in partnership with the Video Association of Dallas. The winning films can be viewed here.
