KATE SHEERAN has been named provost and dean of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, effective July 1. Currently assistant dean at New York City’s Mannes School of Music and the New School, Sheeran succeeds ROBERT FITZPATRICK, who is retiring from the SF Conservatory after serving as interim provost and dean since January 2014. A professional hornist, Sheeran has performed with such ensembles as the Wordless Music Orchestra and Alarm Will Sound, and has recorded for the Tzadik, Warp, New Amsterdam, and Nonesuch labels. She holds a bachelor’s degree, a performer’s certificate, and a certificate in arts leadership from the Eastman School of Music and a master’s degree from the Yale School of Music.
