“Conductor Fouad Fakhouri will leave the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra at the end of next season, the symphony announced Wednesday,” writes Rodger Mullen in Wednesday’s (5/13) Fayetteville Observer (North Carolina). “The symphony said it is forming a transition committee to identify a new music director…. Jim Konneker, chairman of the symphony’s board of directors, said in a news release, ‘We celebrate all his accomplishments with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. We will greatly miss him, we respect his decision and wish him well.’ Fakhouri was named conductor and music director of the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra in May 2004, succeeding Robert Gutter. He was chosen from more than 100 candidates, the symphony said. Under his leadership, the symphony presented a wide array of concerts, including original works. The orchestra also collaborated with Cape Fear Regional Theatre on plays, including this year’s ‘Amadeus.’ The 2015-16 season opens Oct. 17 with a ‘Beethoven and Blue Jeans’ program. Fakhouri’s last scheduled show is an April 16 performance of ‘Carmina Burana.’ ”
