The Detroit Symphony will offer a free live webcast of a portion of its May 20 rehearsal of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, at 10am (ET) at dso.org/live. Music Director Leonard Slatkin will lead the rehearsal, for which both conductor and musicians will be outfitted with microphones. The broadcast will include the first fifteen minutes of rehearsal, per American Federation of Musicians broadcast regulations, as well as Slatkin’s recorded remarks about the Mahler symphony. The DSO will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 this weekend at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall, along with Gabriela Lena Frank’s Concertino Cusqueño and Sibelius’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, with soloist Paul Huang.
