AHMAD MAYES has been named director of community engagement and learning at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, effective June 22. He was the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s interim director of education and community engagement, and had previously spent four years as its manager of community programs. Before that, Mayes served as director of operations and artistic administration at Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, where he played a major role in launching the El Sistema-inspired YOSA Music Learning Center. He began his orchestra career as assistant production manager of the Sarasota (Fla.) Orchestra. A trained horn player with degrees in music education and arts administration from Florida State University, Mayes was a participant in the American Express Nonprofit Leadership Academy in 2010 and a member of the 2015 class of Arts Leaders of Metro Atlanta.
