“Trumpet legend Herb Alpert and his wife, Grammy Award-winning singer Lani Hall, are wrapping up a tour of Japan and the U.S., but their stop in Costa Mesa this week will be different from any of their other shows,” writes Jackie Moe in Wednesday’s (6/3) Orange County Register (California). “For the first time, the duo will be backed by an orchestra when they perform with the Pacific Symphony from Thursday through Saturday at Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. ‘We heard so much about the quality of the orchestra that we knew it was something we wanted to do. I can’t wait because having the symphony orchestra playing behind us is going to be quite a thrill,’ said Alpert…. Alpert and Hall will also pay tribute to their musical pasts. He’ll dust off a few hits from his top-selling band, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, while she’ll perform a medley of songs by Sergio Mendes & Brasil ‘66, for which she was a lead vocalist in the late 1960s and early 1970s…. Though this is the first show the duo will perform with an orchestra, Alpert does not plan on it being their last. ‘I hope to play with many more symphonies…. There are some great symphonies and orchestras around the country that we would love to perform with.’ ”
