Ohio’s Canton Symphony Orchestra is partnering with the Stark County Park District to present a series of seven free concerts from June 4 through September 6. Entitled Summer Serenades, the series launched on June 4 with a string quartet from the orchestra performing at Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park. A brass quintet from the orchestra will perform at the Magnolia Flouring Mills on June 23 and at Cook’s Lagoon on July 19, and a woodwind quintet will perform at Walborn Reservoir on July 7 and Minerva Municipal Park on August 23. On September 6, Labor Day, the full orchestra will perform a pops concert at Petros Lake Park. Each performance includes preconcert activities coordinated by CSO and Parks staff, such as an animal display, instrument petting zoo, fishing station, craft activities, and scavenger hunt. “This is the first time we have shared our music in the parks,” said Lisa Boyer, the CSO’s director of education and community engagement. “It is a wonderful opportunity for a different type of artistic engagement for our audiences, musicians, and community.” The CSO, under Music Director Gerhardt Zimmermann, performs most of its classical, pops, holiday, and educational programs at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall in Canton.
