On Friday (6/5) at Minnesota Public Radio, League President and CEO Jesse Rosen spoke with Sarah Hicks, conductor of Pops and Presentations for the Minnesota Orchestra, and MPR host Tom Crann about the state of the orchestra field. Covered in the 24-minute discussion were how the Minnesota Orchestra built internal trust and common purpose during its recent trip to Cuba; the explosion of new music being presented by orchestras today; the many ways orchestras today are experimenting with concert formats, pricing, packaging; the Cleveland Orchestra’s youth initiatives and ways they are attracting new audiences; and aspects of the orchestra industry that are not routinely covered in the press, such as work orchestras do in local schools and the fact that one-third of all concerts are offered free. The conversation concluded with a discussion of ways orchestras are cultivating the next generation of philanthropists. Click here to listen to the conversation.
