In Wednesday’s (6/10) Contra Costa Times (California), Rocio Hernandez-Zarate reports that trumpeter Chris Bogios, retired from the San Francisco Symphony and the Opera Orchestra, “was remembered for his compassion for others during his memorial last weekend” at Davies Symphony Hall. “He passed away in his Concord home two weeks ago [of] kidney cancer….  Fellow musician Don Caroll, who knew Bogios when they were San Francisco State University students …  recalled a time when the San Francisco Symphony and city’s Opera Orchestra jobs offered few benefits and little security…. ‘He found within himself a voice that was uncompromising, articulate and indefatigable on behalf of opera and symphony musicians,’ said Caroll. ‘His influence, whether [as] negotiating committee chair or a musician behind the scenes, was significant in bringing about changes that seemed impossible at the time.’ Chris Bogios is survived by his wife, Beverly, brothers Jim and Theodore, and three children.”
