In Thursday’s (6/11) MusicalAmerica.com (subscription required), Susan Elliott writes, “The foundation attached to St. Louis-based Enterprise Holdings, whose brands includes the Enterprise, National, and Alamo car-rental companies, has announced $92.5 million in gifts to St. Louis cultural, education, and historical organizations. Among them is the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, whose endowment fund is to receive $10 million. The Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is to get $1 million, to support its hiring of the SLSO [for performances]…. In addition to several other cultural groups, such as the local art museum, millions of dollars will be distributed among hospitals and parks; Ken Burns’s documentary on baseball legend Jackie Robinson also will get $1 million. ‘St. Louis offers an amazing number of cultural, educational and historical treasures that are truly world-class, especially for a city of our size,’ said Jo Ann Taylor Kindle, [Enterprise founder] Jack Taylor’s daughter and president of the Enterprise Holdings Foundation. ‘Nurturing and sustaining these assets isn’t just about ensuring that we all continue to enjoy them, it’s an important way to attract new businesses, entrepreneurs, and young people to [this] community.’ ”
