The Wichita (Kans.) Symphony Society has appointed MARK LAYCOCK conductor of the Wichita Youth Symphony, advanced ensemble of the Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestras program. He will assume the post in August 2015, succeeding STEVE LUTTRELL, who retired from the organization this spring after more than 30 years. Laycock will continue as professor, director of orchestras, and coordinator of strings at Wichita State University. He has presented clinic sessions for state education conferences, the American String Teachers Association National Conference, and the National Association for Music Education. Laycock holds a doctoral degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Northern Colorado, a master’s in instrumental conducting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a bachelor’s in music history and literature from the University of Southern California.
